Tuesday’s Tablescape: A Theme Done Right!

When I saw this wedding by Amorology Weddings, I was absolutely smitten, and you will be too! They did a clever play on the classic song, “These are a few of my favorite things” from the Sound of Music, and the result was absolutely amazing… I’m sure you’ve seen the aqua and red color scheme used frequently in weddings these days, but here it used in combination with bright corals, oranges, pinks, and greens with tons of textures and whimsical details. Check out the Amorology blog for many more photos, definitely worth a peek!

These gorgeous, romantic photos by Jamie Hammond capture the wedding beautifully!

Goodies for Your Wedding at the LSK Pastry Market

Remember the other day I mentioned the Logan Square Kitchen Pastry Market?  Well, it. was. fabulous. And insanely crowded!! The event was a rousing (and delicious) success, so I hope they host this more often! Although it’s probably a better thing for my waistline if they don’t, hehe.

The good images below are by photographer Christina Noel, and the not-so-hot ones are by yours truly (as marked) :)

So many people, my husband had to escape outside after 5 minutes of fighting the crowd. Since I’m little, I was able to dodge my way around… all in the name of pastry! :)

Rich Chocolates & Candies… they had the most DIVINE dark chocolate & sea salt pecan turtles!! They would make the perfect wedding favor… in fact, anything from Rich Chocolates would make a fabulous favor!

Sugarkist chocolate mousse pie
I took home one of these yummy mini chocolate truffle mousse pies from Sugarkist. How cute would it be to serve these at your wedding as dessert instead of wedding cake (and just have a small cake to cut)? Or a variety of them would look oh-so-lovely on a dessert table display!

Macaron Chicago sampler
I’m not exactly sure when French macarons became so popular, but they sure are now! These tiny, puffy bites of sweet goodness are by Macaron Chicago. Another wonderful favor idea for your wedding!

Remember, Logan Square Kitchen is available to rent for private events as well!

Wedding Day Vision

If you are engaged and making your way through the maze called wedding planning, hopefully you’re starting to figure out your wedding day vision and style. But what exactly does that mean and how do you figure it out?! Well, lucky for you there is a wealth of knowledge and inspiration out there on the internet that didn’t exist 10 years ago! (And check out the links in my link section for more fab sites –>)

First, make a list of adjectives that describe your personal aesthetic - what style does your taste typically veer towards on a regular basis? (Something to think about: where do you like to shop? Are you more J Crew, Banana Republic… or Anthropologie… or a bit more Ann Taylor? Or maybe Neiman Marcus!) Second, how do you want guests to feel as they walk into your wedding? Third, what mood do you want to set?

Intimate, grand, contemporary, whimsical, vintage, casual, luxurious, romantic, chic, rustic, edgy, bold, vibrant, classic, feminine, tropical, organic… the list goes on and on! But how do you translate a word, or multiple wordS, into a wedding look and feel? Here are some examples of how a wedding can evoke an adjective:

Soooo, what’s your flavah? What mood are you trying to evoke for your wedding day (or did you evoke if your wedding is past tense!)

Tuesday’s Tablescape: Drama in Aubergine & Chartreuse

First of all, what is aubergine? It’s French for eggplant, as in the vegetable and color!

Today’s tablescape inspiration is full of DRAMA! I love the use of the vibrant jewel tones and the lighting, lighting, lighting! I know manzanita branch centerpieces have been done to death, but when done right, I still can’t help but love them! Especially here with the fluffy rose pomanders and crystals, nestled in a lush arrangement at the base.

Vendor Spotlight: Carnivale Restaurant

Carnivale has been a staple in Chicago dining for quite a while now, but it wasn’t until recently that I found out that they have fabulous private dining areas, and have hosted many a wedding! Their delicious “Nuevo Latino” fare is not your average wedding food, nor is their vibrant and fun decor (perhaps not the right fit for the bride who is hung up on a particular color scheme!).

The main dining room can be bought out for a rather large sum, but it has been done!

The largest private room is the Samba room, which can fit up to 250 guests! And yes, the chiavari chairs ARE included (I think they are all black though).

They also have a number of smaller private dining rooms and salons that are perfect for rehearsal dinners!

Beautiful Bridesmaids Dresses a la Vera Wang

To be honest, I don’t often have the occasion to look into bridesmaids dresses. This is one of the areas that my clients typically handle with the help of their maids. But recently, my attention was directed towards Vera Wang bridesmaids dresses, and much to my surprise (shock is more like it), they are not as expensive as I always imagined they were!  I always thought they were $300+, so I was pleasantly surprised at some of the price tags in the $200 range (now don’t get me wrong, this is still A LOT for a bridesmaids dress, I’m just saying that my previous impression was that they were considerably higher)

And what I love about their site is that they actually state the price and you can order directly from the website. Easy peasy! It can be so annoying how the majority of bridesmaids manufacturer sites don’t tell you the pricing and you have to visit the nearest retailer, which is not always so “near”. Check out some of these beauties (listed by price, low to high)

Julia, $240 (a dress with pockets always gets my vote!)

What are your favorite bridesmaids lines? I also of course love JCrew (who doesn’t, right?), Ann Taylor, Lela Rose, Watters and W2, Barijay, and Jim Hjelm Occasions… just to name a few!

Tuesday’s Tablescape: Pink, White & Vintage Romance

When I saw this photoshoot collaboration between photographer, Meg Smith and florist, Ariella Chezar at the Olema Inn, I was instantly smitten! Peonies, ranunculous and anemones, three of my absolute favorite flowers combined into one luscious, romantic, truly stunning centerpiece… I can’t help but gush! And at first I almost didn’t notice those black netted leaves, but they add an air of sophistication to the arrangement – like a chic birdcage veil for the centerpiece!

The place setting is simple and vintage-inspired. Those tiny pink tumblers are just too sweet, not to mention the little mushroom charm tied to the napkin. Charming indeed!
